What we publish
- Roof snow load by county (72 counties) and the one statewide footing rule, from the Wisconsin Uniform Dwelling Code.
- Permit rules for 30 of the state’s largest cities, read from each city’s own pages.
- The state credentials for building, electrical, plumbing and HVAC work, from the Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS).
- Radon zones by county, from the U.S. EPA’s 1993 map (read Oct 16, 2026).
- Guides and cost pages that cite these sources.
How the facts are kept honest
Every row carries the page it came from and the date we read it. When we could not confirm a rule, the table says “Check with the city” and links to the city; we do not guess. Where the snow-zone line runs along or through a county, we say “ask the inspector” because your inspector decides which zone applies. Rules change, so confirm with your city or county building inspector before you start work.
The grouping of counties into regions is ours, chosen for navigation. It is not an official boundary.

Where one of our Wisconsin directories covers a trade and an area, we send you to it. Elsewhere we give you the kit to hire on your own: the license to ask for, your city’s permit rule and the questions to ask.
